The State of Vermont was recently named U.S. Domicile of the Year by two different industry publications.

For a record seventh time, Vermont was awarded 2020’s Domicile of the Year for domiciles having written over $5 billion in gross premiums by Captive Review, a leading London-based trade publication. In a virtual ceremony, the award was accepted via video by Brittany Nevins, Vermont’s Captive Insurance Economic Development Director.

Vermont was also awarded 2020’s U.S. Domicile of the Year in Captive International’s inaugural, readers’ choice U.S. Captive Awards.

“We are so pleased and honored to have won these awards,” said Nevins. “It’s great to be recognized and says a lot about our state’s captive insurance team. It also demonstrates the deep bench of experts we have here in the private sector, as well as the stature of the companies that make Vermont their domicile.”

Vermont is home to over 550 active captive insurance companies, making it the largest U.S. domicile for captive insurance and the third largest in the world. The state continues to lead the U.S. captive marketplace in gross written premium, with over $25 billion and assets under management, with over $212 billion.
