MONTPELIER - International insurance broker Arthur J. Gallagher & Company has established a captive management office in South Burlington. The Arthur J. Gallagher Captive Services (Vermont) will provide captive products and services to single parent, group and association captives, rent-a-captives and risk retention groups.

The principal contact in Vermont is Kevin Heffernan, Vice President, who has over twenty years experience in risk management as both CFO and Auditor. "Vermont is the largest on-shore domicile in the U.S.," said Managing Director Peter Mullen, Executive Vice President of AJG. "The strong captive professional services infrastructure in Vermont makes it a very important arena for AJG to showcase our products and services."

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., an international insurance brokerage and risk management services firm, is headquartered in Itasca, Illinois, has operations in eight countries and does business in more that 100 countries around the world through a network of correspondent brokers and consultants. Gallagher is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol AJG.

"We are delighted that Arthur J. Gallagher & Company has chosen to open a captive management office in Vermont," said Governor Jim Douglas. "Their reputation and strength in the industry are a terrific addition to Vermont's world-class professional support infrastructure." A pioneer in the alternative market, Gallagher has experienced significant growth in captive activities in recent years as clients seek greater control over their costs of risk.

"AJG has joined some great company," said Vermont's Deputy Commissioner of Captive Insurance, Len Crouse. "We look forward to working with them to continue Vermont's reputation for providing excellent service."

Vermont's Director of Financial Services notes the growing presence of companies like AJG in Vermont. "Our support services are second to none," said Dan Towle. "Companies tell us all the time that Vermont offers both strength and choice when they are shopping for expertise. The addition of AJG will enhance our ability to be responsive, flexible and innovative."
