Ian Davis, of South Burlington, Vermont was appointed the Director of Financial Services in April of 2017 - succeeding long-time Director, Dan Towle. Most recently, Davis has worked as a Policy Specialist for the Agency of Commerce & Community Development for the State of Vermont. Prior to his former position, Ian held a post as Policy Fellow under the Secretary of Commerce.

Ian is a 2010 University of Vermont alum, graduating with a degree in Political Science and Sociology. After leaving UVM, he spent several years pursuing his love of winter sports as an aspiring professional skier in Squaw Valley, California. In 2014, Davis returned to his East Coast roots to complete a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Vermont.

The son of Lisa Ventriss, former Vermont Captive Insurance Association President from 1997-2002, Davis is anything but new to the world of captive insurance. Prior to his appointment, he worked under the strategic direction of Dan Towle in supporting marketing, promotion and generating new business opportunities for Vermont.

Within state government, Ian advises the Governor and Secretary of Commerce on new legislation and policy recommendations to maintain Vermont’s leadership as the premier on-shore captive domicile. Davis is the chief marketing and business development professional for the State of Vermont, working closely with the Department of Financial Regulation and the Vermont Captive Insurance Association to maintain our reputation as the Gold Standard.

Ian is passionate about making his home state the best place to do business and live a fulfilling life. In his spare time, he remains an active member of the UVM alumni community – in addition to being an avid skier, golfer and club soccer player.
